----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Saturday
5th July 2008 was the date A.K.A.
England in partnership with Lee
Hasdell and the SSJ Studio - Milton Keynes staged the
4th event of the 2008
season. The venue for this competition was the Woughton
Leisure Centre.

This I.K.F. sanctioned
Kickboxing competition was a martial arts event called
COMBUDO -
The Way of the Warrior!
Featuring different martial art formats, as part of this event, several
Amateur Kickboxing matches were conducted under Olympic
style rules similar to Olympic Amateur Boxing, known
officially as 'Open Scoring Rules'.
Using electronic score boards, the scoring is 'Open' for all to see
during the play, and this ensures that bouts are scored fairly, as well
as adding a further element of excitement for the crowd, as they can
see one player take the lead, and then the other.
This was especially evident as one particular bout had the audience
totally captivated. Delara Begum ( Birmingham
) vs Jenni Nightingale
( Milton Keynes ) went the scheduled three rounds distance,
only to result in a draw. The O.S.R.
Amateur Kickboxing format does not allow for 'Draw' decisions, and therefore
another round was played. Unbelievably, this too resulted in an all
even result, requiring a fifth round! Again this was contested very
closely, with Nightingale
just piping her opponent by one single point.
Official Scorecard
Red - Blue
22 - 27
44 - 54
75 - 75 - Decision Draw, Another round to be played.
92 - 92 - Decision Draw, Another round to be played.
115 - 116
The ladies in this contest, were given a special, ' MOST
SPIRITED COMPETITOR ' award for this bout.
This is the second time that
these ladies have met, with one win a piece, and both are now offered
the opportunity to contest the I.K.F. Ladies English Title on the 27th
September in Warrington in a what should be an exciting, third and final
decider between these two young gladiators!
The
O.S.R. rules are proving very popular now as more athletes
look to compete in a safe competition format.
Of particular attraction
to the O.S.R. format
is the 'Outclass'
rule, that ensures an athlete is protected form taking too much punishment.
This comes into effect
through the 'Open Scoring' on the electronic scoreboards, and should
an athlete be losing to an opponent by 20 points or more a contest is
stopped due to 'Outclass'.
Supporting athletes travelled from across the United Kingdom as competitors,
and the local community from Milton Keynes
showed their appreciation by giving everyone tremendous support.
This amateur martial arts championships was organised thanks to the
support of the
official 2008 sponsor
of the A.K.A.
England Circuit, one of the worlds leading martial arts
equipment suppliers
M.A.R. International (www.qualitymartialarts.com).
Everyone that was involved in this event would like to thank Mr
Ali proprietor of M.A.R. International
for his support, as well as Steve Fossum, the president
of the International Kickboxing Federation.

A
special thankyou would like to be made also to Mark
Woodard,
(seen in this photo sporting his I.K.F. officials shirt)
who did an excellent job ensuring the safety of all of the players during
the evenings entertainment..
