KUDO
warrington
cheshire mma mixed martial arts kudo daido juku muaythai kickboxing judo ju jitsu boxing
is a Japanese Mixed Martial Arts ( M.M.A. ) System that has developed into its own unique style.

KUDO incorporates striking techniques from.....

KICKBOXING ( Muaythai ), and KYOKUSHIN ( Karate )

plus

Grappling / throwing and groundwork submission methods from
JUDO and JU-JITSU.

KUDO - Methods :

Demonstrated by Kudo Black Belt, Neil Holden ( white Gi ) , and Mark Cooper ( Blue Gi ). The following pictures and their explanations give a brief snapshot of Kudo methods used for groundwork. Many are commonly seen in the professional sport of M.M.A. but are equally applicable for self-defence.

Kudo uses 'Gi Grabbing' techniques to keep an opponent unbalanced, as demonstrated by Neil Holden. Pulling an opponent forward and downward can make them vulnerable for several attacks such as an 'Elbow strike' to the head.

Neil Holden catches a 'shin-kick' technique, controlling his opponents right leg with a left overhook, whilst unbalancing him with a 'Shotei' ( open palm strike ) to the shoulder and stepping forwards.

Holden then uses a 'Leg sweep ' to deliver his opponent to the ground.

Holden then steps over the controlled leg, with his own right leg...

...and drops into a 'knee bar' submission lock.

another common finishing technique from a leg catch overhook is shown here with the 'achilles' submission lock.

'Ground & Pound', is a signature finishing method for M.M.A. where one person secures a 'mount position' and use 'Punches' and 'Elbow' strikes to K.O. an opponent or gain the submission.

Offensive techniques can also be delivered from bottom position. Here Holden uses 'Shimi Waza', choking his opponent out, by grabbing his Gi ( clothing ) and forcing a scissor motion with the blades of his forearns to cut the oxygen supply and force either a submission or a win by k.o. due to choke.

A variation on the 'Shimi Waza' uses the added technique of an 'Up Kick' to place further pressure on the throat whilst pulling down on the label of the gi.

This in turn leads to a 'Triangle choke', as Holden wraps his right leg around the neck of his opponent and secures a leg lock, with his lower right shin positioned into the knee bend of his left leg. A submission can follow within seconds.

Further offensive techniques from the back. Here Holden has secured a 'Guillotine Choke' on his opponent by wrapping his right arm around the back of his neck. He then secures a strangle to the neck by grabbing his wrist with his other hand.

To gain the submission even quicker, Holden's legs are wrapped tightly around his opponents back and he then elevates his hips, whilst leaning back, delivering a painfull 'Neck crank'

Another offensive technique is known as the 'Kimora', when the arm is secured behind the back. Again the the legs are wrapped tightly around the back, and then pressure is asserted by elevating the hips. A swift submission or broken arm will follow.

For those trained in the Kudo M.M.A system, there are methods to pass someones 'Bottom Guard'. Here Neil Holden has broken the grip of the legs that were wrapped around his back, and sets up a pass using an 'under-hook' with his right arm while securing position with his posture, left hand pressing downwards on the chest, and moving to a kneeling position with his right foot on the floor...

...the 'under-hook' arm then lifts the leg up and over, off balancing the opponent, as Holden drives his right palm to the floor and moves to the side.

Here Holden secures 'Side-Control'.

Note how tightly his opponent is pinned down as Holden also secures both his opponents arms between his right knee and left elbow.

From pinning an opponent in 'Side Control' there are various ways to finish an opponent either via a submission or strikes.

Here Holden uses a 'Figure Four' lock.

'Knee-Kicks' can also be devastating from this position...

...as the ribs are extremely vulnerable to an attack from the side.

Should an opponent try to roll away from the 'knee-kicks', he can then be submitted with a straight arm lock as Holden delivers pressure to the elbow.

Here we see another follow on technique, known as the 'Knee-on-belly'.

Used to pin down an opponent, pressure is forced across their waist and hips with the knee, as a 'Ground and Pound' offense is brought into play, usually with the rear hand.

'Knee on Belly' commonly leads to one securing 'Full mount' as strikes from 'Knee on Belly' reign down in singles, whereas from 'full mount' 'Ground and Pound ' (both fists and elbows) can bring about a quick finish.

'Ground & Pound' can then lead to further submission techniques..

... one such example shown here, with the 'Shoulder lock'.

A common defence against the 'Ground & Pound' is to roll over.

This then leads to one giving up the back, and a person skilled in the ground game will then look to finish with several other submission methods, such as the 'Sleeper' or 'Rear naked choke'...

...or...

...the...

...'Juji Gatame!'

also known as the

'Straight arm bar', which if you are caught with, you need to 'tap before you snap!'.
