"
Press release "
regarding the recent newspaper articles on a Channel
4
documentary featuring Children’s Thai-Kickboxing
24/04/2008.
Warrington Kickboxing
Studio runs children’s martial
arts classes weekly, and does not allow any children
to compete, at all. During training at Warrington
Kickboxing Studio, all of our
members, children and adults alike, must adhere
to strict safety conditions, and wear protective
equipment consisting of Headgear, Bodyshield,
Arm-guards, Shin-guards, and padded Gloves that
are double the standard in padded weight, (being
16oz as opposed to 8oz). Further to this, although
the children are wearing headguards, children
are never allowed to have any head contact
at all.
Unfortunately, Thai-Kickboxing does not have a
national regulatory body that every school must
conform to as a mandatory requirement, and many
schools choose to not follow any of the aforementioned
basics.
Some Instructors even advocate children competing
to professional standards, without any protective
equipment and allowing full-contact knockout blows
to the head, as seen in Thailand. Again, this
must be stressed that this is not supported at
all by Warrington
Kickboxing Studio.
Warrington Kickboxing
Studio operates to the highest
of safety standards, and is one of the countries
leading martial arts centres due to this. Warrington
Kickboxing Studio also conforms
to a leading regulatory body, working with the
Amateur Kickboxing Association of England ( A.K.A.
).
This body, is working towards the ideal of developing
Kickboxing as a potential future Olympic sport.
The Olympic Style Rules, ( O.S.R. ), used for
the Olympic sports of ‘A.B.A.’
Boxing and ‘W.T.F.’
Taekwondo ( a kicking martial
art/sport ) are the basis for the ‘O.S.R.’
Kickboxing format, where 'players' compete in
a sport for points wearing complete safety equipment,
as opposed to 'fighters' looking to defeat an
opponent by aggression.
Additionally, as with Olympic Boxing, should
a player be losing a match the points scoreboard,
a contest is stopped early due to the ‘Outclass’
rule. This further enhances the sport as a game,
rather than a sensationalised fight, that players
can safely compete in.

Many people have joined W.K.S.

when you read our archives, you will see why.
Since it was established in 1994, W.K.S.
has produced over 30 Blackbelts, and as well as
