Warrington Kickboxing Studio has always been very strong on the Amateur circuit with our main rivals being Birmingham and Leigh. 2004 saw this continue.

There are 7 weight divisions in the Amateur Rankings, and the 2004 season, ( February to November ), saw 121 competitors competing from Warrington, Widnes, Runcorn, Knutsford, Northwich, Bury, Leigh, Wigan, Bolton, Horwich, Manchester, Altrincham. Halifax and Birmingham.

From these 7 weight categeorys, Warrington Kickboxers finished in the number 1 position, in 4 of the 7 divisions - a very good achievement.

Most succesfull of Warrington’s Amateur Kickboxers is Graham Sayer who not only captured the Counties Title, and then the English Title but also make a succesfull defence of his National belt. Graham Sayer is our leading Amateur, and his Am. record is 22 contests, with only 1 loss!

Andy Glover extended his unbeaten run in the Amateur division to 7 contests, with a successfull defence of his Welterweight Counties Championship.

Mark Woods - Also unbeaten in several contest captured the Counties Light-Heavyweight Title. Lee Sanderson won the Counties Cruiserweight Title. Nathan Joyce - Also unbeaten in several bouts lifted the Counties Heavyweight Title.

Female Amateur, Alex Maunder won the ladies Counties Middleweight title, and was to have made a defence in September - unfortunately after training for the contest, her opponent withdrew. Although frustrated at this, Alex is looking forward to the 2005 season.

John Glover also won the English Welterweight Title, but then lost the crown, in a gallant Title Defence in May. He too is looking forward to 2005 as he is moving down to Lightweight and we feel confident that he will do well in the lighter division.

At the close of the 2004 A.K.A. National Schools League, which lists the most succesull gyms on the Amateur Circuit, the top five are listed as following. 1. Birmingham, 2. Warrington, 3. Altrincham, 4. Halifax, 5. Leigh. With Warrington finishing a close #2 position to arch rivals Birmingham.

Of the 14 titles that are contested in the Amateur ranks, ( 7 divisions with a Counties Title, and an English Title in each ), Warrington captured seven, and at the start of 2005 currently has 6 Championship belts to defend.
