February
10th:
Results from the Leigh Kickboxing
Event.
The Amateur Kickboxing Championships on Saturday
10th February held at Lowton Civic Hall, Leigh,
saw Warrington get off to a great start for the
2007 season.
The event which featured 39 contests, had several
international bouts with kickboxers from Holland,
Turkey, Poland, France and India.
Paul Quayle,
Warringtons A.K.A. Inter-Continental Light-heavyweight
Champion made his first defence on this show against
the England ranked #4 contender
Paul Roberts ( York ).
This contest was also for the British
Light-heavyweight title, so the
win was extra special having two
titles on the line!
Quayle
fell behind at the start of the bout, as his opponent
rushed forward looking for an early finish. After
weathering the storm, Paul
was able to put together crisp
scoring combinations confusing his opponent with
fast hands, then following up with strong knee-kicks
to the body. In round three,
PQ ( nick-name ) began to dominate
at range with strong shin-kicks to the body and
arms. Round four saw more of the same, as Quayle
clearly began to outpace Roberts.
Scorecard from the bout:
Rnd 1 : Quayle 30, Roberts 31
Rnd 2 : Quayle 65, Roberts 60
Rnd 3 : Quayle 97, Roberts 84
Rnd 4 : Quayle 121, Roberts 111
A great win, with many trainers commenting on
how much PQ
has improved over the last few months.
Paige Farrington
did not defend her British featherweight title,
due to falling ill with the flu on Friday.. Hopefully
she will be in action at the Altrincham
event on March 24th.
Other results for Warrington Kickboxers...
Welterweight : Kirsty Hudson ( Warrington ) beat
Sophie McCoy ( Leigh ).
Welterweight : Dean Hamilton ( Warrington ) beat
Ben Dawson ( Northampton ).
Middleweight : Claire Baldwin ( Warrington ) beat
Catherine Stroud ( Leigh ).
Lightheavyweight : Paul McCabe ( Warrington )
beat Gavin Jackson ( Manchester ).
Lightheavyweight : Gary Ball ( Warrington ) beat
Brad Jackson ( Altrincham ).
Cruiserweight : Ben Holguin ( Warrington ) beat
Andy Gibbard ( Northampton ).

March

Charity run - Half Marathon!

Blackbelt
Kickboxer, Mark
Cooper and Senior Instructor Neil
Holden participated in a Half
Marathon on Sunday 11th March, in Wilmslow, Cheshire
to help raise money for the Christopher
Clarke Cancer Research Fund.
The run was a great success and we are pleased
to announce that it raised over
£ 10'000.00
towards the cause.
Left - ( Mark with Neil )

Neil
and Mark
have been training partners for over 12 years,
and are reneown for being fiercely competitive
with each other. ( See
Pict: Left )
Mark
mentioned to Neil
that although he had been training for the run
for several weeks, he was a little worried about
the distance.
At a weeks notice,
Neil
said that he would do the run with him - and a
light hearted challenge was once again on between
the two.
Neil's
final time was 1
hour and 48 minutes ( not bad
for seven days notice ), with
Mark completing at 2
hours, 20 minutes (
again a respectable time for a Heavyweight ).
Mark has
always been very popular at
Warrington Kickboxing Studio,
and would like to pass on his thanks to all of
those that sponsored the run.

March
24th:
Results - Warrington Dominate!
Results from
the weekends Amateur Championships in Altrincham.
Paige Farrington
went into the Lions den, and defended her British
Title against an Altrincham Challenger, Beth
Cordingly, on an Altrincham event!
Several trainers have commented that this was
one of the best ladies contests that they had
seen in a very long time.
The bout was superb from start to finish, and
cements Paige’s
position as one of the best female gladiators
in the country!

Paul Qualye
also succesfully defended his British Title, against
a former adversary - Paul
Roberts. Both had taken their
preparation to another level going in to this
bout, and this showed through with a very competitive
contest.

Pictures :
Left - Graham
narrowly misses with a High-Kick.
Above - 4 x World
Champion wearing the World Title
Belt.
Graham Sayer
was in International action against Guven
Zencir. Graham
had previously beaten
Zencir in September 2006, and
since then Guven
has had 3 straight wins, winning by knockout.
In February, Guven
won the European
title, stopping British Champion
Tony Parker in just one roun,d so it was expected
that this would be a tough defence for Graham.
In fact, the 4 x World Champion was behind on
points after the first round ( 13 - 17 ), but
then steadily applied the pressure, pulling the
scores even before finally winning ( 91 - 74 ).
Having all three of Warrington Kickboxing's current
champions defend their titles at the same time
on a single event, is a great achievement. One
that our school and our town can be very proud
of!
Other results for Warrington Kickboxers...
Heavyweight: Jay Furmedge ( Warrington
) beat Kevin Sheridan ( London ).
Cruiserweight: Mark Woods ( Warrington ) beat
Carlos Dait ( Altrincham ).
Middleweight: Robert Lightburn ( Warrington )
beat Paul Rapier ( Darlington ).
Welterweight: Nathan Smart ( Warrington ) beat
Steve Pinder ( Cornwall ).
Lightweight: Ryan O’Donnell ( Warrington
) beat Bobby Bains ( Birmingham ).

June 2nd:
3rd Amateur event of the season!
Staged
in Darlington, and promoted by Craig Willis and
Paul Pearson, this event had several Chapionship
matches headlining, including two International
bouts.
England
vs Poland,
was for the European Heavyweight Title between
Andy Ward ( England ) and Arthur Kus ( Poland
).
Result - Poland on points.
England vs Holland,
was for the World Heavyweight Title between
Paul Enion ( England ) and Gerad Van Dyke
( Holland ). Result - Holland on Points.
Warrington Kickboxer - Chris
Heaths rematch against Garry
Rickinson for the World Lightweight
Title was cancelled at the last moment as Rickinson
was unable to pass a medical due to a chect
infection.
A.K.A. rules state that if there are any challengers,
a title must be defended at least once every
six months. Due to this Rickinson
relinquished his belt.
As Chris
had prepared for this bout over several weeks,
the title bout still went ahead. Heath faced
the current European Amateur champion, Robbie
Newton from Bishop Auckland
- who was also scheduled to compete on the same
show.
This was a tough contest throughout with very
little between the athletes. At the end of the
penultimate third round, the score was 68
Red to 68
Blue the contest was all even.
However following a tough fourth and final round,
it was Newton's
hand that was raised, giving the win by points
decision to the Blue
corner.
Also on the show - Warrington Kickboxer, Paul
Quayle,
made the second defence of his British Light-Heavyweight
title against Darlingtons Mike
Edwards. Quayle
started well, leading the contest in the first
round 26 Red
to 23 Blue.
The second round saw Paul extend his lead further
57 Red
to 53 Blue,
Unfortunately the tide turned in the second
half of the contest and Quayle
began to tire on the home stretch as the scores
for the third round became 81
Red to 84
Blue. Quayle
rallied in the final round, but it was not enough
with the final score being 115
Red to 118
Blue.
Both athletes put in very good performances,
but tonight was not theirs. There is no such
thing as a guarenteed win, and this is what
makes the sport so exciting.
A loss is never a loss, if you learn from it.
Both Chris
and Paul
performed very well and I have no doubt they
will only improve from the experience.

4th Amateur event of the season!
Was hosted by the Lee Green,
and his Manchester team on Saturday
21st July 2007 at
the Urmston Leisure Centre, Manchester.
Graham Sayer
missed out on a fourth defence of his Amateur
Kickboxing Association World Middleweight title
against Indian Kickboxing Champion Rajeet
Singh as the Indian team was granted
its visa application too late to organise flights
to England.
Warrington clubmate Ryan
O'Donnell did compete, contesting
the English welterweight title but losing on points
to Newcastle's Mark
Platts.
Robert Lightburn
contested the English middleweight title against
Darlington's Darren
Langthorne, who last year took
Sayer
the distance.
The impressive Lightburn
led his experienced opponent 36-33
after the first round but was trailing as the
scores were 83-94
two rounds later and, although he made a final
round comeback, he agonisingly lost by just
one point 112-113!
This was a good result against one of the leading
Middleweights in the country, and shows that Robert
has the skills to mix it with the best!

5th Amateur event of the season!

Warrington Kickboxing
Studio proudly hosted the fifth

Warrington’s Graham

now a two weight World Champion, a tremendous
achievement – and his 10th
straig ht championship win!

Paige Farringon,
made a second defence of her British Champion
status against Emma
Jones ( Widnes ).
This was a double title bout, as the I.K.F.

Paige.

Oct 20th:
P.Q. becomes our 34th Blackbelt!
Congratulations
to everyone that succesfully graded on Saturday
(20th).
Especially Paul Quayle who after
four and a half years training finally passed
his Okamido Kickboxing Blackbelt exam.
It has been two years since P.Q.
last took a grading test, as he has been concentrating
on competition.
During
that time he has been very succesfull, not only
capturing the British Cruiserweight Title, but
also the Inter-Continental Title when he representated
his country in an
England vs India
bout.
On the recent Amateur Kickboxing Championships
held in September, P.Q. became
the British Light-Cruiserweight champion. He is
set to defend this title in Birmingham on the
8th December.

Dec
8th:
Final Championship of the season!
The
final Championships of the 2007 Season were staged
in Birmingham on the 8th December. Host club,
Steve Logan's K-Star
gym, staged the show at a great
venue called the Royale Suite.
Warrington Kickboxing
had two Champions make title defences on this
show. Unfortunately Paul
Quayle lost his title to home
favourate Keith
Robinson by Outclass decision.
Robinson
rushed P.Q.
from the openning bell, and P.Q.
was unable to get out of first gear.
Each time a kickboxer competes he learns more
and more and improves to the next level. P.Q.
is not too disapointed by the result as with all
sports you win some and you lose some. P.Q.
will be back in action very soon.
This was P.Q.
3rd title defence this
year and it is always a roll
of the dice as to how long you can remain an unbeaten
champion - which is why, unlike Warrington
Kickboxing Studio, some schools
never let their Champions make title defences.

On the same event, Chris
Heath successfully defended his
British Light-Welterweight title. Heath's
success came against Teeside's Jamie
Muldowny, winning the entertaining
contest with a technical knockout in the third
round.
The Warrington Kickboxer was unlucky not to land
his high kick, missing by a whisker on several
occasions.

Heath won a European
and a World title
at Lightweight in
2006, and since moving up a division to
Light-Welterweight has put in
excellent performances. A great end to the season
for Chris Heath.
Three other Warrington Kickboxers recorded winning
results, with welterweight Daryl
Ellis defeating Milton Keynes'
John Stephenson
on points, cruiserweight Lee
Evans defeating Wolverhampton's
William Cull
in the second round, and light heavyweight Alan
Carr ending the hopes of Milton
Keynes' Lee Wooding
with a T.K.O. in the second round.

International Pro. News : 'K-1'.
YOKOHAMA
- Japan, December 8, 2007 -- Semmy Schilt of Holland
turned aside all challengers tonight to win the
K-1 World Grand Prix 07 Final at the Yokohama
Arena.
Schilt's third-consecutive WGP Championship is
unprecedented in K-1 history. Along with fightsports'
most coveted belt, the 34 year-old kickboxer also
picked up a winner's purse of US$400,000 - ( £
200'000.00 ).

The 15th annual K-1 WGP Final followed the sport's
classic eight-man tournament format: Four first-tier
bouts advancing a quartet of fighters to the semifinals,
the winners there squaring off in the final. All
bouts were contested under K-1 Rules, 3min x 3R,
with two possible extra tiebreaker rounds.

grades. Top row, from the left, John Emanu, Steve
Martin, Alan O'Keafe, Aaeron Potter, Adnan Rashid,
Babs McCauley, Carlie O'Donnell, and Danny Garth.
Jay
Furnedge advanced onto the Senior Grades when
he passed his Brown Belt. Jay trained very hard
for this exam, as this grade also includes a running
test - something not easy for a person that used
to weigh 21 Stone ( 133 Kgs ).
Jay now weighs 112 Kgs and competes at Super-Heavyweight.
His competition record currently stands at 2 wins
from 2 contests.
