KUDO
is a Japanese M.M.A. combat sport developed from the combatives system Kakuto ( Combat ) Karate.

KUDO founder Grand Master Takashi Azuma initially trained in Kyokushin Karate and Judo.

He was a direct student of the great Kyokushinkai Karate legend
Mas Oyama
( Pictured left ).

In 1980 Grand Master Azuma ( 9th Dan ), the 1977 Kyokushin Karate All-Japan Champion, parted from Mas Oyama's Kyokushin Karate organisation so that he could develop a more complete combat system, based in part on his experiences in real life unarmed combat situations as a Tokyo city Police officer.

He named of his new combatives system

KAKUTO KARATE

meaning

COMBAT KARATE.

KakutoKakuto ( Combat ) Karate combines...

Kyokushin Karate
techniques for Striking
( Kicks, Punches, Knees, Elbows, Open-Palm-Strikes and Head Butts )

and

Judo
techniques for Grappling ( Takedowns and Submissions ).

It is a modern and practical combat system.

Note : There has no Kata's within the syllabus as seen in traditional styles of Karate.

Grand-Master Azuma
set up the
Kakuto-Karate International Federation

to help develop Combat Karate further.

( Picture : early logo for the Association )

KAKUTO KARATE International Federation.

As Kakuto-Karate evolved, fighters wanted to compete using mixed martial arts rules that allowed Striking and Grappling. From this the M.M.A. Combat-Sport of KUDO was developed.

KUDO soon became very popular as a Combat-Sport and the Kakuto-Karate International Federation changed its name to KUDO International Federation ( K.I.F. ).

Further evolution of the sport saw Kickboxing Striking techniques adapted rather than Kyokushin Striking techniques as fighters sought more optimal methods. It is often said the Karate, while wearing Gloves for competition is Kickboxing and Kickboxing, without Gloves for Self-Defence is Karate
!

KUDO
is often described today as Kickboxing mixed with JUDO, hence the name KUDO.

Many Kickboxing schools have adopted
KUDO for their M.M.A. programs.

KAKUTO ( COMBAT ) KARATE.

KAKUTO
is a Japanese term for 'Combat'.

KARATE
literally means 'empty hand' being a term used to describe 'without weapons'. Hence Karate means 'unarmed'.

Kakuto ( Combat ) Karate
is an 'All-round-fighting' system, utilising Kicks, Punches, Knees, Elbows, Open-Palm strikes and Headbutts when standing or grounded along with throws, sweeps, and submissions. Joints attacks as well as attacking vulnerable parts of the body such as the the eyes with finger rakes ( Shredder ) is also an intergral part of combat training.

KUDO - KARATE
U.K. REGISTRATION.

In the U.K. unfortunately there is no National Federation for the combat sport of KUDO.

Therefore Instructors and Students are registered and insured using their Kakuto ( Combat ) Karate grades with the
British Combat Karate Association.

The B.C.K.A. is the leading authority in the U.K. for specialist training in modern practical Combatives ( Self-Defence ).

Several U.K. based schools, lead by Shin-Sen-Juku, Okami-Dojo and Tatsu Dojo have formed a SHIBU ( Working Group ) that supports K.I.F.
( Kudo International Federation ) events when Grand Master Azuma attends the U.K.

The British Combat Karate Association is lead by

Peter Costerdine
( 9th Dan - B.C.K.A. ) and

Geoff Thompson
( 8th Dan - B.C.K.A. ).

In the U.K. COMBAT KARATE is organised though the British Combat Karate Association ( B.C.K.A. ).

The B.C.K.A. group specialises in modern practical self-defence combatives and is lead by Peter Costerdine 9th Dan, & Geoff Thompson 8th Dan.

Peter Costerdine has worked worldwide within the close protection business, as seen here during a security operation to well known global celebraties the Beckhams.

Geoff Thompson ( 8th Dan B.C.K.A. )
, is also a celebrated author who has published several best selling books on 'REAL' self defence combat methods.

These books have become required reading across the martial arts industry for anyone who either wants to research the subject of self-defence or who wishes to offer combatives instruction to others.

One of his most famous books, "Three Second Fighter" concentrates on how to utilise what is known in the Karate world as ICHI-GEKI, meaning ULTIMATE STRIKE!

ICHI-GEKI is what most combatants search for in a live situation, the One-Strike-Finish!

KUDO as mixed-martial-arts combat sport has increased in popularity across the globe during the last three decades, and there are now more than 40 participant countries that attend the World Championships, known as the Hokutoki, in Japan.

K-1 World Grandprix title

and also held the GLORY Kickboxing 'World Super-Heavyweight Title'.

Just as JUDO is the 'Olympic' combat-sport developed from the combatives system of JAPANESE JU-JITSU.

KUDO
is the 'Mixed-Martial-Arts' combat-sport developed from the combatives system of KAKUTO-KARATE.

It is hoped that one day KUDO will also become an Olympic Combat Sport alongside JUDO.

The Okami-Dojo Wolf-Gym will support Grand Master Azuma in his quest!
