A.K.A. Competition Rule 34.

34. AMATEUR STATUS:

DEFINITIONS

"A martial arts / combat sports bout will be classed as a Professional if it allows
full-contact punches to the head without the competitors wearing headguards".

The A.K.A. recognises that there is a transition period for Competitors advancing from the Amateur ranks into the Professional division, and that some people try Professional competition, only to decide that they are more suited to Amateur competition.

If someone has had 3 or more ' Professional ' contests, under A.K.A. criteria they will not be eligable to compete on A.K.A. Kickboxing events, as they will have lost their Amateur status.

Amateurs receive no payments for competing. In most instances Novice Professionals, those with less than three Professional bouts, receive no payments for competing.

Payments to Professional Kickboxers via direct purse, travel expenses or ticket commisions are classed as by the A.K.A. as payment for competiting
.
