The Open Trials is an M.M.A. Mixed Martial Arts competition, allowing punches, kicks, knees, throws, takedowns and submissions, but under Amateur criteria ( no head strikes allowed at all ) . Each competitor is guaranteed a minimum of two fights on the day.

These events, now in their ninth year, offer the perfect opportunity to gain invaluable experience in Mixed Martial Arts competition and are open to ALL competitors from all martial arts backgrounds.

The Combat Sports Open Trials is where M.M.A. champions of tomorrow are born. Zelg Galesic, Paul Jenkins, Sol Gilbert, Paul "Semtex" Daley, Alex Owen, Tom "Kong" Watson and Dave Lee are just a few of today"s hottest stars who have worked their way through the Combat Sports Open Trials ranks.


Weight categories for the Amateur M.M.A. events are as follows:

-70.5kg : Lightweight

-77kg: Welterweight

-84kg : Middleweight

-93kg : Light-Heavyweight

-120kg : Heavyweight

The Open Trials is a tough but fun day out. Attitudes are left at the door as the competitors meet to test their skills in a friendly and like-minded environment.

Open Trials competitors will usually fight twice during the afternoon. After the event, competitors are awarded points for their performance (3 points for a win, 2 for a draw, 1 for a loss) and then given an official ranking in the Combat Sports Open Trials 2009 league table.

Successful competitors in the Combat Sports Open Trials events during the three Legs that will be held during the season ( 2009 ) will be invited back to compete in the Combat Sports National Championship 2009 later in the year, where they will fight tournament-style for the B.A.M.M.A. National Title Championship Belt, National Recognition and £100 per weight category prize.





All applications to compete in the Combat Sports Open Trials events must be received in advance as there are strictly NO entries permitted on the day.

This event is exceptionally popular and the previous FOUR YEARS of Open Trials events completely sold out weeks in advance of each event! So - please get your entries in ASAP as these events WILL sell out once again this year!!!

COMPETITION ENTRY FEE (LICENSE HOLDERS): £15.00
SPECIAL OFFER: Insurance license AND entry to your first event - £20.00 (combined value usually £30.00)

SPECTATORS TICKETS: Everyone is welcome to come along and spectate at any of the Combat Sports Open Trials events. The price is only £10.00 per ticket if booked in advance, or £15 on the door.
